SBLC & MT760 Learning Path
An SBLC is a bank undertaking, not a cash balance or automatic source of finance. Follow this learning path from first principles to practical bank procedures.
Start with the four distinctions
An SBLC commonly serves as a backup undertaking; a commercial LC typically supports payment against presented trade documents in the ordinary course.
MT760 is a message format used in relevant bank communications, not a certificate that cash is reserved or transferable to a third party.
Payment depends on a conforming demand and the undertaking's governing terms, not merely its issuance.
Even an authentic SBLC does not establish a lender's independent credit decision.
